Faenza ceramicsIn medieval times, Faenza ceramic production was almost entirely dedicated to domestic needs, making use of rather simple shapes and decorations. Its most significant period in artistic terms was the Renaissance when the 'gothicy' and oriental themes of medieval and early-Renaissance production were abandoned, paving the way for a clearly Italian artistic and decorative form of expression: four-leafed flowers, ovolos, rosettes, domes and pages It was in the Renaissance that Faenza lived its artistically most significant period. As time went by, this tradition was consolidated, enabling Faenza craftsmen and artists to create a centre of ceramic tradition which is still of vital importance for present day Faenza.
